Himachal Pradesh reported 234 new Covid-19 infections and three deaths on Monday.

At least 40 students at a boarding school in Mandi District in Himachal Pradesh have tested positive for Covid-19. Three staff members also contracted the virus, and now the Dr Vijay Memorial secondary school in the city of Dharampur has been converted to a containment zone. While the students do not attend outside the school, the staff go to the market and elsewhere. There are currently 130 students in the 9-12 grade boarding school. Schools and other educational establishments have gradually resumed physical classes across the country.

Sarkaghat Sub-District Magistrate (SDM) Rahul Jain, who is also the SDM of Dharampur, said some students were taken to the civilian hospital on Saturday after falling ill. These students were tested for Covid-19 and were later found to be infected. Jain added that a team from the health department arrived at the school on Sunday and also took samples from other students, after which 22 students and three staff tested positive.

Further samples were taken on Monday when 18 other students were diagnosed with Covid-19. As 43 people have been confirmed to have contracted the virus, the school has been declared a containment zone. All the students have been isolated, and the health service and district administration are monitoring the situation.

The Dr Vijay Memorial secondary boarding school only accepts students in grade 9-12. Currently, 130 students, men and women, are staying there. Students must pass an entrance test to be admitted to class 9, then all expenses of the selected students are covered by the school authorities up to class 12.

Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh on Monday reported 234 new Covid-19 infections and three deaths. The active caseload rose to 1,616. Mandi District reported 70 new cases on Monday. At least 51 new cases have been recorded in Hamirpur, 39 in Kangra, 36 in Bilaspur and 25 in Shimla.
