Stony Brook University Jumps in Top Colleges in the United States and World Report 2023 Rankings: Now #77 Among National Universities and #31 Among Public Universities |

STONY BROOK, NY—September 12, 2022—Stony Brook University, recently named the flagship of the State University of New York system, has seen its ranking increase significantly in the US News & World Report 2023 Best Colleges ranking. The university moved up 16 places and now ranks 77th among national universities from its previous ranking of 93rd. It also moved up seven places, from 31st to 38th among public universities. This is the highest ranking Stony Brook has achieved in the history of this publication. This is the first time that Stony Brook has been ranked New York’s top public university without being tied to another university.

The publication reports 1,450 public and private colleges and universities with U.S. bachelor’s degree-granting institutions on 17 measures of academic quality. The rankings are based on the methodology used by the publication which includes graduation and retention ranking; peer review rank; rank of faculty resources; rank of financial resources; graduation rate performance ranking; student excellence ranking; rank of indebtedness of graduates, rank of social mobility and rank of graduates.
