BENGALURU: An international school in Whitefield has reported an outbreak of Covid-19, with 34 people testing positive.
Thirty-three students and one staff member tested positive at the International School Bangalore, said Manjunath J, deputy commissioner of Bengaluru Urban. Staff had taken two doses of vaccination.
“The case was first reported when two children from Nagpur complained of fever and Covid-19-like symptoms,” Manjunath said. They have been tested and found to be infected. As this is a boarding school, all students and staff have been tested.
“There are 297 students and 200 staff and all of them have been tested. We are awaiting the results of 174 tests, ”he added. The children are in high school and upper secondary. A 24/7 taluk health worker and an in-house doctor attend to patients.
Meanwhile, the school said it was returning to online education. “The students were fired. There are still international students who will be returning home soon. We will move on to online courses, ”said a member of senior management. He said, however, that 18 students had tested positive.
Indus International School had two students, siblings, recently tested positive. It was closed for four days and will reopen Monday for offline lessons.
